    Hello, and welcome to the Christian Life Coach Podcast. I am Shanna, your Christian.

    00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:16.000

    life coach. Welcome to the show. I… I'm gonna be honest with you.

    00:00:16.000 --> 00:00:21.000

    I did not record or post an episode last week.

    00:00:21.000 --> 00:00:27.000

    And I am late recording this week's episode. And I'm doing it anyway.

    00:00:27.000 --> 00:00:36.000

    And I'm doing it on the fly. So, there's that. Welcome to my new setup in my closet.

    00:00:36.000 --> 00:00:41.000

    I have a blanket hanging behind me. If you are watching the video.

    00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:45.000

    If you're not, you can head on over to YouTube, and you can see it on YouTube.

    00:00:45.000 --> 00:00:52.000

    I have a blanket from Bahrain from my son's Navy service, hanging up behind me.

    00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:59.000

    And it is blocking my husband's side of the closet from your view.

    00:00:59.000 --> 00:01:10.000

    Oh, man. So, I just wanted to… Bring you this super quick episode. Like I said, I'm… I'm working on the fly today.

    00:01:10.000 --> 00:01:14.000

    And I just want to encourage you, because next week is Thanksgiving week.

    00:01:14.000 --> 00:01:23.000

    And with that comes… family get-togethers, friend get-togethers, combinations.

    00:01:23.000 --> 00:01:31.000

    Um… changes in family dynamics, maybe you have older kids, and they got married this year.

    00:01:31.000 --> 00:01:35.000

    And maybe this is your first year not spending it.

    00:01:35.000 --> 00:01:41.000

    With your immediate family, and maybe your son or daughter is.

    00:01:41.000 --> 00:01:45.000

    Off with their spouse's family for the… for the Thanksgiving holiday, and.

    00:01:45.000 --> 00:01:52.000

    this is kind of a transition. year for you. And I just want to encourage you.

    00:01:52.000 --> 00:01:59.000

    I have a video that I posted last year about expectations, especially going into.

    00:01:59.000 --> 00:02:07.000

    the holiday season, and I… there's a video. on YouTube, these are all on YouTube.

    00:02:07.000 --> 00:02:12.000

    There is a video also about your holiday, like, creating your holiday.

    00:02:12.000 --> 00:02:16.000

    protocol, and for those of you on YouTube, again.

    00:02:16.000 --> 00:02:24.000

    I am going to link those videos at the end of this video for you to go if you're like, oh my word, Coach Shannapee, I need.

    00:02:24.000 --> 00:02:32.000

    all the help this holiday season. I am going to link those videos, so if you are listening.

    00:02:32.000 --> 00:02:40.000

    Anywhere besides YouTube right now. You're gonna wanna head on over to YouTube, and I'll also… I will put the links.

    00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:48.000

    for those in the show notes. Wherever you're listening, so you can get, um, get over to YouTube and see those videos if you need.

    00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:53.000

    If you want the help with that. So, I just want to encourage you.

    00:02:53.000 --> 00:02:58.000

    I think the biggest thing going into the holiday season, and really.

    00:02:58.000 --> 00:03:03.000

    Anytime, coming towards the end of the year, going into the new year.

    00:03:03.000 --> 00:03:07.000

    really… Who do you want to be?

    00:03:07.000 --> 00:03:19.000

    What do you want your experience to be? Do you… want to have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with all of your family.

    00:03:19.000 --> 00:03:28.000

    Even Uncle Leroy, who. is sometimes crude or rude, like, do you want to.

    00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:36.000

    Just… enjoy. the holiday, regardless of what anybody else is doing. Who do you want to show up, no matter what?

    00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:40.000

    What are the emotions that you want to experience?

    00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:46.000

    No matter what. And that is all only dependent.

    00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:52.000

    on you. Uncle Leroy is gonna say what Uncle Leroy's gonna say.

    00:03:52.000 --> 00:03:56.000

    The kids are gonna get in arguments, because that's what they do.

    00:03:56.000 --> 00:04:04.000

    And you can't control. any of that. So, what can you control?

    00:04:04.000 --> 00:04:09.000

    You. That's all. You can control the way that you're thinking.

    00:04:09.000 --> 00:04:13.000

    Which, in turn, controls the way that you're feeling.

    00:04:13.000 --> 00:04:29.000

    In turn, drives how you act. The words that you say, the attitude that you say it with, I know that that is something that I really… That is something that I… I'll have to work on, like, what… what is my…

    00:04:29.000 --> 00:04:34.000

    What… what… what is my facial expression? What is my tone?

    00:04:34.000 --> 00:04:47.000

    And some people in my family are very sensitive to those things, so… It is my work to… Work on how I come across. How do I want to come across? I want to come across.

    00:04:47.000 --> 00:04:52.000

    as kind and loving. and generous.

    00:04:52.000 --> 00:04:58.000

    And I can only do those things when I'm thinking thoughts that are kind.

    00:04:58.000 --> 00:05:04.000

    loving and generous. No matter what anybody else is doing.

    00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:10.000

    Because I can only control me. I love Byron Katie's teaching, or.

    00:05:10.000 --> 00:05:13.000

    quote or whatever, in her book, Loving What Is.

    00:05:13.000 --> 00:05:18.000

    And it is… There are 3 kinds of business.

    00:05:18.000 --> 00:05:22.000

    There is God's business. Which only he can take care of.

    00:05:22.000 --> 00:05:31.000

    And sometimes I, I, like, I want to… tell God how I think things should be going, but really, that's just wasted energy.

    00:05:31.000 --> 00:05:39.000

    There is other people's business. Which, again, I can tell people what I think they should do, but.

    00:05:39.000 --> 00:05:44.000

    I can't control what they do. I can't change anybody else.

    00:05:44.000 --> 00:05:53.000

    So, that, again, is wasted energy. And then there's my business. And when I let go.

    00:05:53.000 --> 00:05:59.000

    of other people's business, and how they're doing things, or not doing things. And I let go.

    00:05:59.000 --> 00:06:09.000

    Of what only God can do. And allow him to be the loving, generous creator that he is.

    00:06:09.000 --> 00:06:23.000

    then I have the energy and the resources. to focus… on my business. What is my business? Who… Who do I want to be?

    00:06:23.000 --> 00:06:29.000

    What is within my control? And that's what I want to focus on.

    00:06:29.000 --> 00:06:34.000

    I want to focus on loving Uncle Leroy, no matter what he says.

    00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:41.000

    I want to be generous and kind. To Uncle Leroy, no matter what he says.

    00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:51.000

    Okay. And so, really thinking about how you want to show up next week, or whenever you have your holiday celebration.

    00:06:51.000 --> 00:06:57.000

    I have a friend that had Thanksgiving with her kids last Sunday.

    00:06:57.000 --> 00:07:05.000

    Um, because that's how the schedule works when… when your kids are getting older, and they end up getting married into other families.

    00:07:05.000 --> 00:07:08.000

    things change. How do you want to show up?

    00:07:08.000 --> 00:07:13.000

    How do you want to respond? Who do you want to be?

    00:07:13.000 --> 00:07:18.000

    Again, I want to be… Loving, kind.

    00:07:18.000 --> 00:07:27.000

    And generous, no matter what. Oh, you're not coming to Thanksgiving again for the third year in a row because you're spending it with their family?

    00:07:27.000 --> 00:07:33.000

    Okay. How can I be kind? loving and generous, even then.

    00:07:33.000 --> 00:07:40.000

    And so, thinking ahead… Okay, these are all the people that are going to be at Thanksgiving.

    00:07:40.000 --> 00:07:45.000

    This is, like, this is the common situation. When all of these people are together.

    00:07:45.000 --> 00:07:54.000

    And usually, I get irritated, or my feelings get hurt, I get offended, and I end up feeling unappreciated.

    00:07:54.000 --> 00:07:59.000

    And resentful at the end of the day. I don't want that this year.

    00:07:59.000 --> 00:08:03.000

    And this is just an example. So, thinking ahead.

    00:08:03.000 --> 00:08:11.000

    Okay, these are the people, this is a situation, how do I… want to think and feel.

    00:08:11.000 --> 00:08:17.000

    Throughout the day. That is creating the way that I show up.

    00:08:17.000 --> 00:08:21.000

    who do I want to be? No matter what.

    00:08:21.000 --> 00:08:26.000

    And if you take the time to do that work.

    00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:30.000

    it's not gonna be perfect. Because there's people involved.

    00:08:30.000 --> 00:08:34.000

    And you're a person too, and people are not perfect.

    00:08:34.000 --> 00:08:40.000

    Things happen. But it's going to go better for you.

    00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:44.000

    It's going to be better if you think it through.

    00:08:44.000 --> 00:08:50.000

    And decide when Uncle Leroy says. such and such?

    00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:54.000

    I want to remind myself. Cool, Leroy's just being Uncle Leroy.

    00:08:54.000 --> 00:09:03.000

    I don't have to take it personally. He gets to do and say whatever he wants to do, and then I get to choose how I think and how I feel about it.

    00:09:03.000 --> 00:09:14.000

    Because Uncle Leroy can't hurt my feelings. I hurt my feelings when I agree with Uncle Leroy and what he's saying about me.

    00:09:14.000 --> 00:09:20.000

    And I don't want to hurt my feelings. Uncle Eora gets to be wrong.

    00:09:20.000 --> 00:09:27.000

    That can be a really freeing thought. Other people get to be wrong about you.

    00:09:27.000 --> 00:09:31.000

    So good. So, I encourage you, take the time.

    00:09:31.000 --> 00:09:39.000

    before, whenever your family get-together is. And think ahead. This is what usually happens, this is how it usually goes.

    00:09:39.000 --> 00:09:43.000

    How do I want to go? How do I want it to go this year?

    00:09:43.000 --> 00:09:45.000

    How do I want to show up for it?

    00:09:45.000 --> 00:09:49.000

    How do I want to feel when I'm back at home?

    00:09:49.000 --> 00:09:57.000

    with my core family, my husband, myself, whatever, how do I want to feel about the day, how I showed up?

    00:09:57.000 --> 00:10:01.000

    After it's all over. Thinking through that ahead of time can be.

    00:10:01.000 --> 00:10:08.000

    so powerful and so helpful. To make it so much better than it's been in the past.

    00:10:08.000 --> 00:10:18.000

    And again, I'm going to link. a couple videos that will also be super helpful, that kind of go through a couple different processes to help you.

    00:10:18.000 --> 00:10:21.000

    do this work, if you want to dive into it.

    00:10:21.000 --> 00:10:27.000

    And again, I will… those will be linked. Happy Thanksgiving!

    00:10:27.000 --> 00:10:32.000

    I will have another episode next week. It will be on time.

    00:10:32.000 --> 00:10:37.000

    Um, so I just appreciate you, thank you for being here. Remember.

    00:10:37.000 --> 00:10:45.000

    I wrote a book, a devotional book. old. Self-care stewardship, a 31-day devotional.

    00:10:45.000 --> 00:10:52.000

    And it is all about… how to get back to the basics of being a good steward of the.

    00:10:52.000 --> 00:10:56.000

    Body, the time, the energy that God has given you.

    00:10:56.000 --> 00:11:00.000

    And it's a great gift. And a really good.

    00:11:00.000 --> 00:11:07.000

    thing to have on your. nightstand, or your side table, wherever you do your devotions.

    00:11:07.000 --> 00:11:11.000

    And that will also be linked in the show notes.

    00:11:11.000 --> 00:11:18.000

    I am so happy to have you here. Thank you for being here, and remember that life coaching is life-changing.

    00:11:18.000 --> 00:11:23.000

    One renewed thought. At a time.
