How to Build the Habit of Taking Action
Many people believe that if they just felt more motivated, they would finally start doing the things they know would move their life forward.
But motivation is unreliable.
The women who consistently take action are not waiting to feel motivated. They have practiced following through until it becomes part of who they are.
Here are three principles that will help you build the habit of taking action.
1. Start Where You Are
One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to change their habits is starting too big.
They try to completely overhaul their life overnight.
Your brain sees that massive change and immediately pushes back.
Instead, start where you are.
Commit to what you are willing to do consistently. The goal in the beginning is not intensity. The goal is consistency.
2. Decide Who You Are Becoming
Habits stick when they are connected to identity.
Instead of saying:
I want to exercise.
Try saying:
I am becoming a woman who takes care of her body.
Your brain naturally tries to align your behavior with the identity you believe about yourself.
3. Follow Through Consistently
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is evidence.
Every time you follow through, you collect proof that you keep your word.
That evidence builds belief.
And belief strengthens identity.
You do not become a disciplined woman overnight.
You become disciplined by practicing discipline today.
One action. One decision. One renewed thought at a time.
