Renew Your Mind: Remember, Believe, Live
The Christian Life Coach Podcast Episode 79
Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. But what does renewing your mind actually look like in everyday life?
It isn't simply repeating positive affirmations or trying to convince yourself to believe something that sounds better. Biblical mind renewal starts by returning to what God says is true.
In this episode of The Christian Life Coach Podcast, I'm sharing a simple framework I use to put this into practice:
Remember. Believe. Live.
Remember what God says.
Believe His Word over the thoughts and beliefs that compete with it.
Live in alignment with what you say you believe.
We can know what Scripture says and still discover that we're living from a competing belief. I can believe God is my provider and still panic when something happens financially. I can believe my worth comes from God and still find myself looking to other people for validation.
That doesn't mean it's time to shame ourselves for not believing enough.
It's an invitation to get curious.
What am I believing right now?
What am I afraid is true?
What am I making this situation mean?
What does my behavior suggest I might be believing?
And most importantly: What does God's Word actually say?
In this episode, I'm also sharing how I use my planner to intentionally put God's truth in front of myself and how journaling can help uncover the thoughts and beliefs operating underneath our behavior.
Your reactions, patterns, procrastination, comparison, desire for control, inability to rest, and even the commitments you repeatedly break can give you information about what you are believing.
Not for condemnation.
For information.
Because awareness isn't an opportunity for shame. It's an opportunity for renewal.
When you recognize a thought that isn't consistent with God's Word, you don't need to replace it with wishful thinking. You can take that thought captive, return to Scripture, remind yourself of what God has actually said, and ask what living from His truth looks like today.
Renewing your mind is a continual practice because we're human and we forget.
So we come back again.
Remember.
Believe.
Live.
And then tomorrow, we remind ourselves again.

Renewing your mind is intentionally reminding yourself of what God says is true.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:06:28
choosing to believe His Word over the thoughts and beliefs that compete with it, and learning to live in alignment with that truth.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:06:42
that we believe that we are intentionally reminding ourselves of. So remember, believe, live. And I'm going to talk about how using my planner and journaling.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:06:55
helps me and can help you in this process.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:01
Welcome to the Christian Life Coach Podcast. I am Shanna, your Christian Life Coach.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:08
So we have been talking about being transformed by the renewing of your mind as is.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:17
talked about in Romans 12, 2. It is…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:21
Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:30
And the difference between conforming is we conform.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:38
through default, through following the path of least resistance. Transformation.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:45
happens through intentional, the intentional renewal of our mind. And it is.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:54
Transformation.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:57
is…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:07:59
through God. God created our brains to work the way that they do. He created.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:08:07
our lives to follow what we believe to be true. And so when we are transforming, when we are renewing, sorry, when we're renewing our mind, when we are intentionally.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:08:22
believing God's Word on purpose, then our lives are going to follow that. Things are going to change.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:08:31
Renew your mind, it can become one of those phrases that we just throw out there, and I think, I'm pretty sure I've said it in the past, that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:08:40
It wasn't until I was in my 50s that I really even understood what that meant. And when I learned coaching principles.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:08:50
how to apply that in real life, I was like…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:08:54
That's what this means! And in so many other instances of the Bible, Christian life coaching that is biblically based has helped me to.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:09:08
apply biblical principles to my life in real time where the rubber meets the road.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:09:15
And I think I said it before too, that like memorizing that verse, repeating that verse, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, like that isn't, that is telling us what to do.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:09:31
rehearsing that verse isn't doing what it's telling us to do. It's just…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:09:37
It's just rehearsing the directions. It's not following the directions, right?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:09:43
And I don't think that renewing your mind means sitting in front of a mirror repeating mantras.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:09:53
of, you know, mantras that you hope to one day believe, but really cannot even believe. And I don't… also don't think that it's taking a negative thought.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:10:04
and replacing it with a positive thought just because it feels better.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:10:09
For me, and what I do believe that the Bible is saying is, renewing your mind is coming back to remind yourself of what God says. Reminding yourself of God's truth.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:10:24
It's saying, this is what God says, and I believe Him.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:10:30
What then?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:10:33
reminding me of what God says, reminding me that I believe God, so I believe what He is saying in His Word, and then… now, what does it look like.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:10:45
On a regular Tuesday, when I believe what God says, what does it look like? What does my life look like? How do things look different? What does living from that belief of that truth, what does that look like?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:01
And…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:02
And repeating mantras, like, that's not the problem, but you want to make sure that what you're repeating is something that you actually want to believe, that you believe that is true from the Word of God.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:15
And in Scripture, God repeatedly tells us to memorize, to hide God's word, to repeat it as you're walking and as you're laying down and to write it on the doorpost of your home.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:30
We are to be reminding ourselves continually.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:36
of God's word.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:39
And we repeat it because we're human and we forget.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:44
We might believe something.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:46
And like the Bible says, this just popped in my mind. We look at ourselves and see ourselves in a mirror, and as we turn away, we forget what we look like.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:55
It happens like that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:11:56
We believe, we walk out of church feeling so strong and encouraged, and then we scroll on social media and we're like, and like…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:12:06
That was a quick transfer.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:12:12
of, um…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:12:14
of whatever inspiration, right? We go from, I believe God's word. I'm a Christian. I want to do good. I want to love people to arguing with people on the internet.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:12:27
Um, so we remind ourselves continually because we forget. We get confronted with a situation or an Instagram post or whatever, and we forget.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:12:41
that God tells us to.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:12:45
To lead with love, to love others, to show them our love by how we love one another.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:12:54
And so that is what this renewing of our mind, continually reminding ourselves.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:13:02
And so do not conform. Don't just automatically go down this path of least resistance, but be transformed by the work of renewing your mind.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:13:16
intentionally on purpose. And it's not behavior modification, right? It's not like the.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:13:26
um, training, because if we go down this path, we're gonna get buzzed. It's…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:13:32
Because this is who we are, this is who God made us to be. We can change our behavior temporarily. We can say, I'm only gonna say kind words to other people.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:13:47
for a period of time.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:13:50
And that's by willpower. That's white-knuckling, right? But when we truly…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:13:59
Believe that God created us.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:02
from love, for love, that we love God because He first loved us, and I am loved with an everlasting love, even though I have said and done things that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:16
are not lovely.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:19
And I know that I know that I am forgiven. I know that I am loved and I believe that and I remind myself of that, then it is easier to be loving and kind and forgiving to other people.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:34
Right?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:39
So…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:39
when you're thinking about renewing your mind, instead of asking yourself, okay, what's a… what's a more helpful way to think? What's a better way to think? What we want to ask is, what does God say is true?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:53
Do I believe what God says?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:57
And if I believe him.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:14:59
What does that look like in this situation? What does this look like as I live?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:15:06
As I interact with other human beings, right?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:15:12
So we want to remember renewal begins with remembering. And I always, I don't, I do not trust myself to remember.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:15:26
So I always say, I remind myself. It's intentional, it's purposeful. I remind myself. There are things that we know.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:15:40
That we, that we even believe.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:15:44
But we forget. And so we need to continually bring these things back into our awareness to remind ourselves of what is true, to remind ourselves of what we believe.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:16:03
There's a difference between knowing the truth.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:16:08
And living intentionally from that truth. Believing that truth in my life for me.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:16:18
For example, I know God is sovereign. I know God loves me. I know my identity is Christ. I know I'm not condemned in Christ. I'm called to steward what God has given me. I know that I'm supposed to love other people.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:16:33
and forgive other people. But knowing those things doesn't automatically mean that I live from them all the time.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:16:45
And in Psalms it says, I have stored up your word in my heart so that I might not sin against you.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:16:50
This isn't just…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:16:54
information acquisition. This is not just memorization. I'm hiding God's word in my heart. I'm reminding myself of what God says so that my behavior is in alignment with what he says.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:17:12
Deuteronomy says that God commands his people.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:17:16
to keep His commands on their hearts, and talk about them when they sat… sit at home, when they walk along the road, when they lay down, and when they get up. Keep putting God's truth in front of yourself. Keep reminding yourself of what God says.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:17:32
And remind yourself that you believe what God says. You don't just believe in God, you believe God.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:17:41
And this is this reminding.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:17:46
That is one of the ways that I use my planner.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:17:50
in my journaling, in my planning for the day. And oh, I just happen to have it here.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:17:57
I have my Life on Purpose planner. If you don't already have a planner that you love, this is… it's more like a journaling planner, where you're… you're not…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:18:07
it's not like a day runner where you're like scheduling everything with it. I do all of my calendar scheduling stuff on my Google Calendar. I also keep track of it in here. But this is more of I'm planning my life.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:18:23
I'm deciding who I want to be, how I want to show up in the world, what I want to accomplish.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:18:30
And so I use my planner.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:18:35
to remind myself of who I am, who I want to be, what it is I'm working towards.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:18:42
And it's not that you need to buy a planner and write Bible verses in it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:18:48
I went every day when I'm writing in my planner.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:18:53
I'm deciding again, how do I want to show up today? What does the Bible say that I believe? And I believe all of the Bible. What does the Bible say? And what can I remind myself of?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:19:09
from God's word to help me to be the person I want to be today.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:19:19
And in my planner, I have a…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:19:22
Bible verse of the day. It might be the same Bible verse that I write out for a week or even a month, and I'm writing thoughts to practice. I jot down things that I want to remind myself of. I write down most days. I am his.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:19:39
I want to remind myself that I am His, and everything else filters through that. You might want to write about, what do I believe about God?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:19:50
What do I believe about myself right now because of what God says? And so you use your planner, you can, I do, use my planner.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:20:03
as a tool to renew my mind, to be reminding myself who it is that God made me to be, who do I want to be today, and how do I remember that?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:20:14
And how do I root it? How is it already rooted in God's Word? Because who I am, who I want to be, is always rooted in God's Word.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:20:28
And I have… I've been using a planner for a long time. I just last year published…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:20:35
the life on purpose planner on Amazon, and it took me a long time to figure out like exactly the format that I want. And I'll probably be adding some more teachings to the beginning of this eventually. But this is a really great place to start. It's a 90 day planner.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:20:51
I have been using a planner for years, and it helps me to start my days with intention. Do I always do everything that I say I'm going to do? No, of course not. But this helps me to remember to remind myself of who God made me to be.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:21:08
His word, His truth, and how I want to apply that in my day-to-day life.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:21:19
And so that's how I remind myself.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:21:23
And… and when I say believe, like, believing, knowing what the Bible says.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:21:30
And living as though you believe it isn't always the same.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:21:37
We can know what the Bible says. We can agree that what the Bible says is true.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:21:46
And also we can live simultaneously from a belief that competes with what the Bible says.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:21:55
And that doesn't necessarily mean that we're lying when we say that we believe the Bible. It means that we're humans.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:22:04
And our minds still need to be renewed. We still need to remind ourselves. I can say, I believe that God is my provider.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:22:14
And then…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:22:16
Something could happen financially. And I can immediately feel stressed out. How am I going to fix this? What am I going to do? What happens if this doesn't work out? What if it doesn't improve? Whatever, everything falls apart.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:22:29
And you want to pay attention to that and not shame yourself for not believing enough.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:22:36
You don't want to tell yourself, good Christians trust, don't worry, just don't worry, good Christians trust God. Instead, you want to get curious and ask yourself, what is it that I'm believing right now?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:22:50
What is it that I'm afraid is true?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:22:54
What am I making this situation mean? About me? About God?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:00
And how is that belief affecting what I'm doing, how I'm showing up.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:07
And then…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:08
What does God's word actually say?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:13
What does God's word say?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:22
And this is where journaling comes in to find out what is it that I'm thinking. So sitting down to a blank page or in the.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:34
Life on Purpose Planner, there is a journaling section. What's on my mind?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:40
And then there are spaces for creation cycles on the bottom.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:45
Why am I so upset about this? What am I afraid of? What am I making this mean?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:23:50
And you just write without censoring. You don't need to make it sound like it would sound if you were talking to your pastor.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:01
Or, you know, your mother-in-law.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:03
You don't write down what you think you're supposed to say. You write down exactly what is inside of there, what's actually going on inside of my brain.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:15
And you're mining.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:16
for patterns and beliefs that are influencing how you're operating. And you're not looking for something to blame.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:25
You're not looking for a reason to beat yourself up. You're looking for information. What is it that I'm believing?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:30
that I'm living from right now.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:32
And then don't shame yourself. When you find the lie, when you find that thing that you're believing that isn't even true.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:42
And actually, maybe it is true, but it's not what you want to believe.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:24:47
Maybe it's, it's true that you have, you've been believing this thing and you're like, oh, I really do think that though, or I really do feel this way. You can question that and you go a level deeper and a level deeper until you find the lie.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:03
And when you find the lie, there's no shame in that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:10
You just recognize, oh.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:12
I'm not trusting God the way that I want to be trusting Him in this situation.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:21
And that's okay.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:23
Like.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:24
Questioning that and uncovering the thought like, oh.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:29
I actually do. I don't believe that lie, actually.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:35
Like.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:36
I don't even think that thing is going to happen. I'm not even afraid of that thing, actually.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:42
I actually do believe that God is working all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:49
And there's no condemnation. Romans 8:1 says, there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:25:59
So condemning ourselves.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:02
Has no place here. Right? Awareness is not an opportunity for shame. It is an opportunity for renewal.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:13
And the Bible tells us, take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. So those things that we're thinking that aren't even true.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:22
Take it captive.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:24
Like, put it in jail. Lock it up.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:29
to the obedience of Christ.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:33
You don't have to believe every thought that your brain is thinking.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:38
Even though a thought feels incredibly true.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:43
It can still be examined. And you can still ask, is it actually true?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:52
And if it's true, is it helpful?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:26:54
Like, is it true that this thing happened? Okay, that's true. Is it helpful to dwell on that? Eh, not so much.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:27:05
Is it consistent with what God says? Like that's the ultimate test. Is it consistent with what God says?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:27:22
Let's see. I'm kind of skipping through some notes. And so, and replacing, so when you find a thought that you're taking captive.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:27:32
It doesn't mean make up a better thought, right? We want it to be true, and we want it to be helpful. So…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:27:43
Instead of, um…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:27:46
Going from that situation where something financial happens, and you're stressed out, and you're trying to figure out how to make it all better.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:27:53
you're not gonna go from, oh my word, this is a disaster, to…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:27:58
everything's going to work out exactly how I want it to. You don't know that. That's not necessarily true. And it's not helpful, because you don't even know if it's true, right? And not, God is going to make my business successful. We do not have a biblical problem…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:13
a biblical promise of that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:16
Nothing bad is going to happen.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:18
The Bible does not say that anywhere.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:21
But what we can do.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:24
Remind ourselves of after we take those thoughts captive. We make them obey.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:30
what the Word of God says, and God, it says, He is with us. He is Emmanuel, God with us.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:38
He says to ask for wisdom, and it will be given to me. I can ask God for wisdom.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:43
I'm responsible for faithfully stewarding what God has given me today. That is true, that is helpful. How can I steward what God has given me today?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:28:53
I don't have to know the outcome in order to take the next faithful step.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:00
I can trust God.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:03
Those statements are rooted in actual biblical principles rather than just wishful thinking.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:09
And that is so important. We're not wishful thinking. We're reminding ourselves of what God has said and that we believe what God has said.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:22
Then how do we live from that?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:26
How does believing this change how I live today?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:31
And James says to be doers of the word, not hearers only, right?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:37
And so in your journal, you can ask if I actually believe what I just wrote in this journal that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:46
I am responsible for stewarding the gifts that God has given me.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:29:52
What changes? What does that look like? What is my next step? What do I do faithfully to steward what God has given me?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:02
If I believe God has forgiven me.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:07
I have the responsibility to stop rehearsing my failures.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:14
As though continually punishing myself is somehow going to make me more righteous.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:21
It doesn't work that way.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:22
You are forgiven?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:25
Walk in forgiveness. That is stewarding the gift that God has given you.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:32
If I believe my worth isn't determined by another person's opinion.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:39
Because my worth comes from God.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:42
Then maybe I don't spend the afternoon checking whether or not they liked my post or or they who else's post they commented on and not mine.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:52
If I believe I can ask God for wisdom, then maybe.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:30:59
Just maybe, instead of spinning out for 3 h.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:03
searching, researching, I can pray and ask God to help me make the best decision, to give me wisdom in this situation, and move forward.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:13
If I believe that God has called me to steward my body.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:16
Then maybe the next step is going out for a walk.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:20
instead of waiting to feel motivated to do it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:24
And this is where transformation starts becoming visible belief.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:31
The your beliefs.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:33
are directly.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:37
displayed by how you act.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:42
And I know every time I hear something to that effect, I'm like, ugh.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:46
Sometimes it hurts.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:49
Your life.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:51
helps to show what you are believing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:31:57
Instead of asking, what do I believe? Look at your life. Look at how you react. Look at the patterns.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:04
Look at the places that you get stuck.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:07
And also look at the positive things. Look at your great relationships. Look at where you're doing work in the world where you're making an impact.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:18
And, and…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:19
Track that back to what you believe that is leading to you taking the actions to do that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:27
And when it's looking at…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:30
how you are not showing up the way you want to. Again, it's not for condemnation. It's for information like, Oh, I'm doing this.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:40
thing that I really don't want to be doing. What is the belief that is behind that that's driving that action.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:48
If I keep procrastinating.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:51
on a task, what am I believing about that task? What am I believing about my ability to complete that task?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:32:59
If I'm comparing myself to other people, what am I believing?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:05
about their success and what it means about me.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:10
If I, oh, here we go, ladies.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:13
If I'm trying to control everyone around me.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:18
What am I believing is going to happen?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:21
If I'm not in control.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:26
There's so many. What if I'm unwilling to rest?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:31
What am I believing about productivity?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:35
about my worth and my responsibility.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:40
If I continually break commitments I've made to myself.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:46
What am I believing in the moment when I decide not to follow through?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:51
These beliefs are driving our actions. And so when we.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:33:58
go in… in the… in the planner, and I said, we have this little what's on my mind section, and then you take that into the creation cycle section, and we get back to the root, that thought that we're believing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:12
And we see how that is is directly corresponding to the action we're taking. And then we can decide to do an intentional creation cycle. What is true? What does God's word say about this? What am I reminding myself that I believe?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:29
And then what flows through that belief?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:36
So.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:37
Remember.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:39
Remember, what does God say?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:42
Go back to Scripture, read it, write it down, keep it in front of you, remind yourself of it continually.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:52
Believe. What do I believe?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:34:55
And do I believe what God says? What is it that God says? What is it that I believe? Where am I struggling to believe like the the man in the Bible says, Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:35:10
Right? What are those competing thoughts that keep coming up against what I believe? What the the belief that I have about what God says. I believe what God says. What is my competing belief that keeps pushing up against it?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:35:27
What does my behavior suggest that I might be believing?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:35:31
Rather than what God says. Not for shame. For awareness.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:35:36
Bring that competing thought that's coming up against the word of God. Bring that under the authority of Scripture. Take that thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:35:46
And then live.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:35:48
What does believing God's truth look like today? What decisions change? What actions change? What do I stop rehearsing in my brain?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:35:59
What do I release?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:02
What do I forgive?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:04
Where do I need to trust?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:07
Where do I need to walk in obedience?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:11
And this…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:14
Remember, remind yourself. Believe and then live. That is.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:20
being transformed by the renewing of your mind. It's a practice.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:27
And, and just remember it's, it's continual because we forget we're humans. We continue to forget. We continuously forget. So we need to continuously remind ourselves of what is true, what we believe, God's word.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:45
So I would just encourage you to notice.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:36:49
One area of your life that you are not taking the actions that are moving you in the direction that you want to go that are in alignment with who God says you are.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:04
And spend some time journaling like, okay, what's happening here? Like, what is it that I want to be doing?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:11
What is it that I'm doing instead?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:13
What is it that I'm thinking about this? What am I afraid is true?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:19
What does my behavior suggest that I might be believing?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:24
And what does God's word say that I can bring into application in this situation? And do I believe what God says?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:34
What could it look like to live from?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:37
that truth today in this situation.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:43
And then write down that Bible verse, that biblical concept, that truth. Write that down. Put it on a sticky note. Put it on your lock phone screen.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:54
Write it in your planner every day.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:37:57
to remind yourself. Put it on your bathroom mirror.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:38:01
And it's not because it's a magical mantra, it's because you're reminding yourself of what God's Word says. You are hiding God's Word in your heart so that you might not sin against Him, so that you're taking action based on that belief of what God's Word says.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:38:17
And then do it tomorrow and do it the next day. And you keep doing it because you know what? We're human.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:38:24
That's what happens.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:38:26
It's part of sanctification. It's working out our own salvation, right? It's a continual process until we are face to face with Jesus himself.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:38:39
Thank you so much for being here.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 14:38:42
Don't forget that life coaching is life-changing, one renewed thought at a time.
