What is Getting in the Way of Your Goal?
Episode 81 The Christian Life Coach Podcast
You probably already know at least some of what it takes to create the result or change you want. So why aren't you doing it consistently?
In this episode, we're talking about some of the things that get in the way of achieving our goals, and sometimes the problem isn't that we need another plan.
Maybe you're pursuing a goal you think you should want instead of something you actually want.
Maybe you aren't clear about what you're trying to accomplish or what it will take to get there.
Maybe you're trying to do too much.
Maybe you're waiting to feel motivated.
Maybe the way you're thinking about yourself is keeping you from taking action.
Or maybe you simply haven't followed through consistently long enough to create evidence that what you're doing is working.
We'll talk about each of these and some questions you can ask yourself when you aren't making the progress you want.
I also share how these same principles apply when you're building a coaching business and how I can help through IMPLEMENT and Steadfast.

You probably…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:05:27
already know what it takes to create the results that you want, or the change that you want. So, what keeps getting in the way of you doing those things consistently?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:05:41
I know what it is I need to do, and yet I don't do it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:05:46
Um, what did Paul say? The things that I want to do, I do not do, and the things I do not want to do, I keep doing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:05:56
This is what we are going to be talking about today in.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:00
The Christian Life Coach Podcast. So welcome to this episode.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:06
I have talked about.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:12
When we think we want to do something, but we're not quite invested in it yet. I have a couple episodes on being invested or interested rather than invested or.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:29
invested or committed to doing the things.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:33
And that was back in 2019.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:37
I think July. Did I do those? Yes, in July. So episode 76 was the main episode on that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:48
So if you want to go back, like, am I interested in this or am I actually committed to doing this thing?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:06:56
So I talk all about that. And today, because I'm actually recording this on the day that it's supposed to come out, so it will come out at some point today.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:07:06
And thank you for being here and listening or watching if you're watching the video.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:07:13
It is September 30th, so the last day of September and also the last day of quarter three. Tomorrow we step into quarter four of 2026.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:07:28
And in my personal goal setting, in my coaching, we work in 90 day intervals. And that is, it's kind of based on the book that came out.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:07:45
a long time ago, the 12-week year. It's such a good way of breaking goals down, and you may have, like, a 5-year goal.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:07:55
And anytime you have any type of goal, really, you want to break it down to the smallest, like, from the big idea of what your life is going to look like when this comes true.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:07
Like the big dream and you want to break that down into smaller pieces if it's a five year goal.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:14
What do I want to accomplish in?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:17
In each year, what do I want to accomplish each month? What do I want to accomplish each quarter? What do I want to accomplish each?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:27
I said month already, quarter, then month, then week. And then what do I want to be doing on the daily?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:35
to hit those milestones.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:39
And so this is the beginning of quarter four. I have my quarter four planner all set to go. And I actually started using it on Monday because why not? I have my weeks.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:53
I think of weeks as starting on Monday.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:08:58
Okay, so why is it that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:04
that even if we know.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:08
what it is that it's going to take to reach this goal that I've set, whatever the goal is.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:14
What are the things that get in the way?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:18
And I'm going to kind of — I didn't put this in my notes, and I have very basic notes for this, some talking points.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:26
The first thing is, do I know what it's going to take?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:30
Do I know, like.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:32
Even if I don't know everything, do I know the basics? Do I know enough to get started?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:39
What am I wanting to commit to to get going? Like, so that's kind of the first like, okay, like I have a goal.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:49
To knit a blanket.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:52
By the end of this month, by the end of October.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:54
I do not know how to knit.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:09:57
I don't have the yarn.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:00
So I need to figure out where am I going to learn to knit? I need to buy the supplies.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:06
I need to actually do the learning and practicing a little bit, and then I need to start the blanket. So there is, like, there's the skill gap, and that's not what I'm talking about today, but that is something to consider. If your goal is to knit a blanket and you have never.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:22
knit anything in your life, then there's a skill gap there.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:27
And so there's some learning and a little bit of research, like research, decide, and go.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:34
But that's not really what I'm talking about today. That's a little added bonus to this conversation.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:42
So, some of the things, and this is not by any means an exhaustive list, it's just kind of what I was thinking about as I was thinking about recording this episode.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:55
And some of the things that get in the way.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:10:57
According to.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:00
Coach Shanna Pyzer.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:03
Sometimes we are not pursuing the goal that we actually want to pursue. Sometimes we set a goal that we think that we should.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:14
Something that we think that we should have accomplished by now.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:20
And this can be a really great goal.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:23
But if it's not something that you actually are ready to commit to and invest in, time, effort, energy, mindset work, all of the things, then it's not really something that you want to do right now.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:36
And this can look like.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:41
It can look like things that other people are doing, like, oh, that group of people are working on this goal.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:47
And I want to be with them, but I don't really care about the goal.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:11:52
then that's not the goal. That's distracting you from your goal, right? We don't want to make decisions based on any kind of fear, including fear of missing out.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:05
So.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:07
It might not be that you're not committed enough or that you're not invested enough. It might be that you're committed, invested in the thing that you're not really want, that you're not even interested in. So it's the opposite end of, are you interested or invested? Like maybe.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:23
Maybe you're committed and invested, but you're not really interested.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:27
You need to have an interest and commitment match. That's a mismatch. Sometimes we pick goals because they sound like the responsible thing or the things that other people do to be successful.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:42
Or…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:44
um, the health goals that we think, I should be able to do this, or I should weigh this amount, or I should wear this size, but it's not something that you're really interested in pursuing and being committed to at the time.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:56
They might sound impressive.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:12:58
Or just the next thing we're supposed to do.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:02
But…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:04
Is it what you really want to do? We keep, we set these goals and I've done it. I'm sure everybody's done it. We set these goals that we think we should accomplish.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:14
And then we wonder, why am I not doing it?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:17
I need motivation. And we try to fix motivation problems and discipline problems and habit problems and consistency problems. But really we need to ask ourselves, do I actually want to do this thing?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:30
And if the answer is no.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:34
Like, you do not need me to give you permission, but if you think you do, here is your permission.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:40
You have permission to give yourself permission.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:44
To.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:45
Focus on what you actually want. What are the desires of your heart? What are those desires that God has placed inside of you?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:53
You have permission to pursue your own dreams and your own goals, rather than…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:13:59
What you think looks impressive or what you think other people think you should be doing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:14:08
And you don't have to beat yourself up about it. There's no shame, there's no blame, there's no guilt, there's no nothing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:14:14
You can just…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:14:16
So as as Elsa would say, you can just let it go. You can put it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:14:22
You know, if you're in, like, a corporate meeting or whatever, sometimes they'll have, uh…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:14:30
dry erase board or a sheet of paper that it's the parking lot. If something comes up while we're talking about this, and you want to talk about something off topic, put it in the parking lot, and we'll address that later.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:14:43
Put it in the parking lot. Like maybe it's something I actually just wrote in the front of my planner this morning. I wrote at some point, some things that I want to work on at some point. Not now, but they were in my brain.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:14:58
They were taking up some space, so I wrote them down, so I know, like, okay, when I have time to focus on something else, I'm gonna go to my at-some-point list.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:06
But it's not what I'm interested in. It's not what I'm committed to working on right now.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:12
So, tell yourself the truth about what you want.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:16
And let that be okay.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:18
Okay, so maybe you're pursuing a goal that isn't what you even want to do. Another thing that gets in the way is lack of clarity.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:27
You might say, I want to lose weight or I want to grow my business. I want to be more consistent or I want to get closer to God.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:37
Okay, but what does that actually mean you're going to do? And…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:41
How do you know if you've accomplished that goal?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:47
So being specific about what it is that you want.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:50
What does it look like when I have achieved this? What does it look like when I've gotten there?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:15:56
And what does it take to get there? What are the things that I want to be doing on a regular basis that are going to be moving me in that direction?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:05
So being clear is so helpful.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:10
What are the actual actions that create the result that you want to create?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:18
And why does it matter?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:20
Why does this goal matter to me? Why do I care?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:24
What is going to be different in my life?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:27
When I reach this goal, when I become the person who does this thing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:33
Why does it matter? That's another thing that I put in the beginning of my planner is why?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:40
What's the goal that I'm working on and why does it matter to me? And I, in my teaching, in my coaching, I encourage us to.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:51
Have.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:51
A list of a lot of reasons why, so that you have a why bank to go back to, to remind yourself.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:16:59
Why you're doing this when it gets hard?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:03
Why you're doing this when it feels like?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:07
When it feels like nobody else cares, or when it feels like it doesn't matter anymore. Why does it matter?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:13
Do that work. Do that work ahead of time for yourself.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:19
And I have a lot of episodes on consistency. I have an episode on make it boring, which is genius in my own personal opinion.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:31
So you can go back. Episode 13, I know, is about consistency. I have a lot of episodes that touch on that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:38
Another thing that gets in the way of achieving our goals, and can I get an amen on this one? Because this is probably my biggest one.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:49
You're trying to do too much.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:17:52
We think more is better, a bigger plan, more habits, more content, more platforms, more everything. And then it gets overwhelming.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:01
And we don't do any of it consistently.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:04
So, simplify. Clarify and simplify.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:09
Simplify enough to be consistent.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:15
I always teach, start where you're at, commit to what you're willing to do consistently, and do it from a place of love.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:23
So.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:24
Simplify, simplify, simplify. We're not going to do anything if we think we're going to do everything.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:33
So what if the answer isn't doing more? What if you need a smaller plan? What if you need to narrow that goal? Maybe this is a year-long goal. What is my fourth quarter goal?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:49
So
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:49
Trying to do too much gets in the way.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:18:53
Another thing that gets in the way. Another good one. Waiting to feel like doing it. Motivation comes and goes.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:04
It's like the shifting tide, except it's not as reliable as the tide.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:10
Sometimes the work is boring, sometimes it's hard, sometimes you just don't want to do it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:17
And… hard things?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:20
That does not… that's not a stop sign. That's not a… you're going the wrong direction.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:25
That means there's work to do here.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:28
And when I when I do this hard work, there's satisfaction on the other side of it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:35
So we don't have to feel motivated to do things like.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:41
Feed our family or change the baby's diaper.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:46
Or…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:19:49
Go grocery shopping. Sometimes I do feel, I do wait to feel motivated to do that. But there are things that we do that we don't necessarily want to do that we're not like, oh, I don't feel motivated, so I'm not going to do it. I don't feel motivated, so I'm not going to go get the baby out of bed, even though he's crying and probably wet and hungry.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:06
We don't do that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:09
We do the thing because it's what we know.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:13
Needs to be done. It's we. It's what we know. What? It's what it takes to do the thing to accomplish the thing to be a good mom.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:24
I get my baby up in the morning when he's crying, and I change his diaper and make sure he's dry, and I feed him.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:31
Because that's what being a good mom looks like. And I want to be a good mom, so that's what I do.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:38
And you can translate that into any area, right?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:44
Um, so, waiting to feel like doing it. We don't have… we don't have to feel like doing anything to actually do it. We can do the thing. One of the things that I use for this, like, especially…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:20:57
Um, okay, recording this podcast, for instance, is one of them. I did not feel like doing it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:03
And I want this podcast to go out today. I decided I was doing it and I knew I was going to be so happy. I was going to have a sense of relief, pride of accomplishment once it's finished. So I want to do it even though I don't feel like doing it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:20
Getting on the treadmill. I rarely feel like putting on.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:24
workout clothes and my socks and shoes, putting my hair up, getting my water and all of the things to get on my treadmill. I don't feel like doing that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:34
But I know that when I finish.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:36
I'm going to feel so much better.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:38
I'm going to be so proud of myself.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:41
And it's reinforcing the person that I want to be.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:46
So can you be willing to do the thing even though you don't feel like it?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:21:51
Why? You have your list of reasons why. Why do I want to do this even though I don't feel like doing it?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:00
So waiting to feel like it is another thing that gets in the way of us working on and accomplishing our goals.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:07
Another thing is.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:10
And this is a biggie and it's this one is more.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:16
More, I don't know. I don't even know what the word esoteric means. I don't know the definition of the word, but it kind of feels like it might fit.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:23
So another thing that gets in the way is the way that you think about yourself.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:29
And the way that you think about your ability to change.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:33
in that area or to achieve that goal. It's your lack of belief that it's possible for you.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:43
And it can look like thinking things like, I never stick with anything. I'm terrible. I'm terrible at this. It's not working. I'm behind. I hear that so often. What does behind even mean?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:22:57
Everybody else knows what they're doing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:00
This is great for other people, but I just, I know I can't do it. I'm not the type of person that can do this.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:07
And those thoughts are not benign.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:11
Those thoughts are having an impact.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:16
You know, I…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:19
All that whole realm of thoughts, that's like a whole bundle of thoughts, right?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:26
And that is going to keep you from taking the action. If you're thinking, I'm behind…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:31
Everybody else is so far ahead. I'm never going to be able to do this. I've never been able to do it before. I always give up. I might as well just give up now.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:42
like…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:43
All of that thing, all of those things are.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:47
Generating emotions in you.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:51
I'm kind of in the realm of defeat of.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:55
Scarcity of fear.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:23:59
Shame.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:01
And those are all going to keep you from taking action.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:07
Because…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:10
They're proving.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:12
Proving what you're believing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:15
Our brain goes to work to prove.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:19
What we are believing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:22
if I believe I can't do this, then my brain is like, yep, you can't, you've never done it before, you always give up, remember that one time, like, it throws out all of those thoughts, and so then you're like, yeah, I'm not gonna do it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:36
So working on that belief of.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:39
maybe I can do this. Maybe I can… I can do this a different way this time. Maybe I'm not expecting myself to do it perfectly this time, so I'm willing.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:24:50
to practice, I'm willing to fail and continue going.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:02
And that can be an incredible shift to start moving you forward.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:12
So learning to recognize, recognize what is it that I'm believing about myself in relation to this goal?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:21
That could be keeping me from taking action on it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:26
Okay.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:29
Another thing that this is going to be the last one that I'm going to touch on.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:34
Not following through long enough to create evidence.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:38
We want evidence that it's working.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:43
We keep changing the plan and starting over and trying something new.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:47
And maybe, like, maybe that… maybe that answer is better. Maybe that person has the right answer. Maybe this strategy is gonna work. But we never practice one thing long enough.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:25:58
consistently enough to find out if it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:02
It is the way that we can do it.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:06
I talk about little quits.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:11
Little quits, starting over. Little quits, start over. Little quit, little quit, little quit, big quit.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:20
And I talk about in my business coaching and really it's any goal that you're wanting to achieve.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:30
Simplify enough to be consistent. Practice consistently long enough to create evidence and let the evidence determine what comes next.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:41
I talked to my coaching clients that are working on businesses.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:47
You have to talk about the thing incessantly.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:26:51
If you're organic marketing, you have to be talking on your social media and all of the platforms, and saying the things over and over and over again.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:04
And you're going to get sick of hearing yourself say it, but you have to keep going because other people are not hearing you enough.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:11
To know what you can do, to know that you can help them, and to trust and believe that you're the one that can help them do what they want to do.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:21
So we're just not giving the plan enough time.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:26
To work. We're not working the plan.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:30
enough and long enough to let it work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:35
And this can be… this can look like… like in weight loss, for instance.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:41
It's so easy to decide, okay, I'm going to lose weight.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:46
I'm going to join Weight Watchers. And you join Weight Watchers.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:51
And you aren't consistently practicing the things that Weight Watchers teaches.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:27:59
And so after two weeks, you're like, Weight Watchers doesn't work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:28:03
What's next? And so then you start Googling, how do I lose weight? And maybe you sign up for.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:28:11
Octavia or you sign up for.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:28:18
whatever, or you start watching YouTube videos on intermittent fasting, or whatever it is, there's so many options. There are so many people teaching how to lose weight.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:28:30
And let's be honest, you can lose weight using any of those methods.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:28:38
If you do it long enough and consistently enough to see the results. If you stick to it, if you work the method, if you're doing the work following the plan consistently, not perfectly, consistently, you're going to see results.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:28:53
Whether they're going to be long-lasting results or something that you can sustain or you want to sustain, that's a totally different story.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:02
But pretty much anything that you follow.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:06
can work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:06
If you actually do the work. So really, again, clarify, simplify, specify, I'm going to commit to this method.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:20
I'm going to commit to this person's teaching.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:25
for and give it a long enough period of time. A week or two probably isn't long enough.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:32
Three months, six months, a year.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:37
And then you can evaluate as as you're going along if you're getting.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:43
The the results that you want if evidence is being created.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:49
And because you're doing the work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:52
Because you're doing the work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:29:55
And when we're not following through, when we're not implementing consistently.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:02
And we're grabbing bits and pieces from here and there and everywhere.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:08
then that evidence is not going to be able to accumulate.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:13
So.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:17
Clarify.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:21
Simplify.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:23
and specify.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:25
And keep going. I have a little post-it note on my.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:30
On my screen that I it's it's probably been there for three years and it says I trust the process.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:39
So that implies that…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:42
There's a process I'm trusting in.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:47
And in order for the process to work, I have to work the process.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:51
I have to commit to the process, and I actually have to work the process in order for the process to work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:30:59
Does that make sense?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:04
So all of this applies to personal goals and business goals.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:10
And I'm really, in my coaching practice, focusing… I do… I have private clients that are working on personal goals, or that just need somebody to walk through.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:23
a season with them. I do work with those clients, and I work with coaches that are working on building a successful coaching practice.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:36
And we talk about doing all of this work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:41
Getting clarity
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:43
Getting consistency.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:46
Clarify, simplify, specify.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:50
Be consistent.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:53
And.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:31:55
I have two programs that are open right now. I'm super excited about it. I have a newer high-touch one-on-one.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:32:07
Short period program called implement. If you're like, okay, I'm ready to get started and put it all together. I want your eyes on my business.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:32:18
Implement is a great choice, and then I have Steadfast, which is an ongoing membership where it's more community-based, it's hands-on support, but not as intense and, um…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:32:33
As often.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:32:34
It's community, accountability, and this month in October, we are diving into Substack and how you can use Substack as an amazing tool to build your business.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:32:49
I have a link in the show notes about… that have all the information about Implement and Steadfast, and how you can join. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:33:04
Also, if whether or not you're working a business, go to the show notes. I will have a goal setting worksheet in the show notes.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:33:16
I'll have it linked in the podcast resources. Sorry. In the podcast resources, I will have a goal setting worksheet for you. So you can go to the show notes and click the podcast resource link and get that. And if you're a paid subscriber on Substack, you'll be getting some extras too. So keep your eye out for that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:33:38
And just…
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:33:38
Remember that maybe what is standing between you and the change that you want isn't that you don't know enough.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:33:45
Maybe you just haven't consistently done what you already know long enough to create the evidence.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:33:53
of what is possible.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:33:57
Maybe you just haven't consistently done what you already know to do long enough.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:34:04
To create the evidence of what is possible.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:34:08
And if you're not, if you're not making progress towards your goal that you've set, go back, go back and are any of these the reason?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:34:18
that I'm not doing this work.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:34:21
And then what needs to shift? How can you change that going forward?
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:34:26
I would love to see you in Implement, Steadfast. I would love to see you over on Substack.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:34:32
Thank you so much for being here and remember that.
[Shanna Pyzer | shannapyzer.com] 08:34:39
Life coaching is life-changing one renewed thought at a time.
